Nothing in Vain

So a few weeks ago I decided that my indecision collection is not complete without the MPB recordings with tom singing. This means i need the demo and all variations of Nothing in Vain. I set off to begin. I found a copy of nothing in vain on white/black/grey splatter on ebay and bought it.  The seller was from europe so i had to pay like 10 bucks in shipping. A week or two later I was in Academy records in brook and low and behold, there was a copy of the same record, for the same amount i had won it on ebay.  I subsequently bought that too, knowing full well I had one coming in the mail already.  I dont know what possessed me to buy a 2nd copy, ive spent a lot of money on records but this was clearly the most pointless purchase ive done. Regardless, Nothing in Vain rips.

DISCOURSE

So recently Bitter Melody records and Head First records teamed up to put out the first Discourse 7".  This band is from down south somewhere, but list up north influences like Indecision, amongst other 90s hardcore bands. I really love 90's hardcore and Its great when I find a current band doing that sound right.  This record is 2 new songs and the demo, and completely worth the money. The clear on the bottom is the preorder version w/ preorder cover limited to 50, the grey is also limited to 100 and the black is limited to 300.

Here's the back of the preorder cover, mine is 22/50.  I was just looking at Bitter Melody's pressing info for this, and each label had 25 of the 50 covers, nothing different btwn them. But then the band also has 50 of the clear w/ regular covers. Should i get really nerdy and try to grab one of those?

Academy 7/28: pt 2.

So here's part 2 of my recent trip to academy. Just 2 lps but pretty solid purchases in my opinion. First up is AFI"s "Black Sails in the Sunset".  I grew up listening to AFI and I still like them today. Not so much the new weird shit they do, but black sails is a fucking classic and an amazing record.

One thing I almost always do is look at the insert of any record I get.  It really gives me a feel for where the band was at that time and also gives me new bands to check out.  When I read the thank you's on black sails i never expected to see what i saw. 

YEP, AFI thanked the almighty Indecision in their thank you's, and right after they thanked Kill Your Idols! I dont know why this was so unexpected to me, I guess i felt like Indecision would never be on AFI's radar, but fuck this is awesome. Oh yea see that SOIA thank you too, awesome.

Secondly, i got another AFI lp, "The Art of Drowning". Yep once again i found both of these records in the same row! I cant tell you how many times I played this album when I got the CD in 10th grade. I remember walking around the halls shutting everyone around me out completely immersing myself in this album.  It got me through a lot in highschool and I'll always love this record.

So thats it for the academy records trip.  I've also decided I'm going to start collecting Sinking Ships records, so if anyone has any they want to let go of, comment!

All About Friends...FOREVER

So I know I recently said that the Great Reversals 7" layout was the coolest of all time. But I think this 7" might beat that one out. This is the All About Friends Volume 2 Compilation, featuring Indecision, Harvest, When Tigers Fight and Between Earth and Sky(doing a Strain cover!). I almost didnt buy it because I generally don't buy comps, but I felt that since it included Indecision, it was a must buy.

The first thing I noticed with this record was that the record wouldnt slip out like a normal record did, and that it felt way thicker than normal. I had no idea what the fuck was going on. Then i realized it had pages in it and so I tried to flip it open but couldnt. Then i realize it was actually held closed together by a plastic strap, almost like a book! How fucking cool is that!. When I finally got it open i saw it was pretty much like a mini-zine compliation. With a essay from the person who put it out and 2 pages dedicated to each band where most put lyrics but Indecision being Indecision wrote a short essay! To be honest, I havent really looked at the other pages yet but I will.

Then I finally flipped to the back of the contraption and found the record itself. Absolutely the coolest way to have the record included to make it almost literally a part of the packaging. A thick clear dust sleeve attached to the back page of the book! So awesome!

And then the record itself is great. Its not a flimsy piece of vinyl, you would think that someone would go all out on the packaging and then use a shitty plant to save costs overall. But not at all in this case, the vinyl is thick and heavy for a 7" and the orange keeps it consistent with the colorways of the packaging.

I'm so stoked on this release that I'm going to link you to where you can pick this up, direct from AAFF's Big cartel, its only $8 and well worth the money.  They have volume 1 up for sale also which features Threadbare and C.R... I still need to get that and will once i record from the stupid amount of money I paid for a certain LI band's demo cassette (to be featured in an upcoming entry!).

Straighter Than You Crew

Usually when I see an Indecision cassette on ebay I will pass over it or just give it a quick look since I'm at the point where I'm only missing one demo (New Restraints demotape, someone make this happen, im still bitter i got outbid on it last time it was on ebay). I dont know what caught my eye about this one but it prompted me to bust out the copy I had to make sure they were the same.

So I check my copy and i see that the actual labels are different! On the one I have the label is "Side X" and on the one on ebay its "Side A".  Also the one on ebay has what looks like a record label's company logo on it to the right side "Real Time CO2" whereas on the one I have that spot is blank. Anyway I was intrgued as to why the label are almost exactly the same, but since there was a different I needed to have it. So I bid and won it for about 15 bucks. Here's a shot of both of them together, top one is the new one, bottom is the one i had.

The one I won only came with the cassette, no case or insert. Unlike the one i already had, however the case on my first copy looks like it was a blank case that someone just wrote the title of the CS on when they got it.

Still no idea why there is the difference in labels, maybe one day I'll find someone who knows why.

Indecision / Indifference TEST!!

So I never used to care about getting test presses.  The way I looked at it, it was almost pointless.  It was expensive and extremely difficult to accomplish.  Nowadays i feel differently and it's an odd sense of accomplishment owning a record that i never thought i would own. This is a prime example of that accomplisment. The Indecision / Indifference TEST PRESS limited to 5 copies.

This popped up on ebay sometime last week.  I caught it at 3 days, and I have an alert for any Indecision record that comes up on ebay (thanks to Nick for teaching me how to do this) and I caught this before the alert did.  Which leads me to believe it was a short auction, which is odd for a test press since you would want maximum exposure to get as much money as possible.  Fine by me though because I think i got off easy on the price with this one.

The seller was awesome enough to include a regular pressing of the 7" also, which now replaces the one I already had that was not in the best of condition.  This is now the second Indecision record that I have that is limited to 5, the other being the split with Shutdown with the cut/paste copied cover. 

Indecision is actually playing tonight in the Village in NYC. Dont know who the first band is, but it's essentially a 90's show.  I cant wait to see Indecision, see you in the pit.

Indecision?

So this straight edge band Discourse is from down south somewhere, I think Atlanta. I was browsing b9 and saw a thread about them. What caught my eye was that their FFO included the almighty Indecision. I checked them out and the cover for there mp3 demo was an Indecision ripoff cover. I checked them out and was very happy with what i heard. Definite 90's hc influence.

This is the first physical incarnation of their music. Bitter Melody Records put out this demotape limited to 100. Incidentally, this is the same label that released the Unorthodox re-issue. I love how the label put a more into it and got heavy cardstock and white/printed tapes. Excellent job. I hope this band tours to NY soon.
