Yo I love 90s hardcore. Culture fully embodies 90's hardcore. So i love culture.  They just recently played down in Miami for some minifest or something.  To Coincide with that show ghetto josh records put out this lp of demos and shit.  There's 2 different covers, this one which is the screenprinted smokestack cover and another with like starving children on it. Both are limited to 150 and this one is #80.

DISCOURSE

So recently Bitter Melody records and Head First records teamed up to put out the first Discourse 7".  This band is from down south somewhere, but list up north influences like Indecision, amongst other 90s hardcore bands. I really love 90's hardcore and Its great when I find a current band doing that sound right.  This record is 2 new songs and the demo, and completely worth the money. The clear on the bottom is the preorder version w/ preorder cover limited to 50, the grey is also limited to 100 and the black is limited to 300.

Here's the back of the preorder cover, mine is 22/50.  I was just looking at Bitter Melody's pressing info for this, and each label had 25 of the 50 covers, nothing different btwn them. But then the band also has 50 of the clear w/ regular covers. Should i get really nerdy and try to grab one of those?

Recent Rev Represses

Revelation has been repressing a bunch of their back catalog of late; Youth of today, In my eyes, Quicksand, Kiss it goodbye, etc. I grabbed a couple of them at Generation last weekend.

Generation had all the YOT represses (cant close my eyes, break down the walls) but i only opted to grab We're not in this alone.  This is my favorite Youth of today record and since I dont collect Rev or YOT by any means I felt i only needed to own this one.  I really like how they redid everything to look like the original pressing.  The red vinyl matches nicely to the cover of course.

I also grabbed the above two Kiss it Goodbye 7"s.  Both are what is being called the "final press" and are limited to 330. Kiss it Goodbye is awesome and they played brooklyn a few months ago.  I am an idiot and didnt go, hopefully they come back soon. I really need to pick up the lp and the other in my eyes repressess now that i think of it.

Groundwork

So on another one of my morning ebay searches i found this 7" from Groundwork. I won it for maybe 4 bucks and I was stoked because A) more 90s hardcore, B) cheap. I paid quickly and then I waited. The seller didnt send it for a while and then finally emailed me saying he mailed it. 2 weeks after i got that email i received the record, with a mailing date of 3 days before. It took over a month to get this record.  While thats not that long compared to past experiences, it is when you have a seller who said he shipped it two weeks ago. Anyway, I was happy to receive it.  But as it being my first time hearing groundwork I was disappointed. I wasnt realy into the music. Oh well, another record to file away, maybe I'll revisit it in a few years.

Academy 7/28: pt. 1

Since I seem to go to Academy Records in Brooklyn a lot, I guess I'll be dating the titles from now on.  Last Saturday I worked about 7 hours before heading into Brooklyn with Joe. We initially went just to walk around, but of course if I'm in Brooklyn I'm going to be going to Academy. For whatever reason I really didnt expect to find anything. Some girls where hogging the newly received LPs so I checked out the newly received 7"s first.

First record i found was Scapegrace's "the ones who fell off the face of the earth". I love the cover art of this record, it just screams 90's to me.

The insert on this one is awesome, very detailed and it folds out to 3 pages long.

Second record I found was a Warped Weeble Wobbles 7". Both of these were in the same box! Shit i felt I was sure to find more Long Island band records..but i didnt.

This one also had an insert that folded out to three pages long. I only took a shot of 2 pages of it so the crowd shot could be better seen.

Last 7" I found was Soulefire's "Refuse to Fall".  I had never even heard of this band but the second i saw the name I new it had to be some kind of 90's hardcore. When i further inspected it I found confirmation of my suspicions in that it was Equal Visions Records #2! When i peeled off the price tag, once i got home, which was over the circle logo, i found some very hare krisha looking symbols. Yep so 90's its not even funny.

And look at that, the third record I got also had a insert that folded out to three pages! All of these were found in the same box, which is pretty awesome. Unfortunately I havent even had time to listen to these records yet.  Today was my 12th day working in a row, I'm surprised I've even had the energy to write any posts this week. I have 2 more LP's i got from this trip. But im going to split them into a Part 2 entry.

New Age

The more I read record collecting blogs, the more I end up searching ebay for random records that I don't have.  These 2 records from New Age are a result of this. I picked both up from the same seller for less than 12 bucks.

First up we got the Mouthpiece "Face Tomorrow" 7".  This record has Cinder on it, which is arguably the best Mouthpiece song there is.  When i saw them at Santos last fall and they played it you know i was climbing and singing along. Nothing crazy about the vinyl itself.  The insert flips open to be double long which is cool.

Next i got the Mean Season "bleed to me" 7".  I don't really know anything about Mean Season besides the fact that they are a 90's hardcore band and are fucking awesome.  This record is clear vinyl out of 400, first pressing! Actually, the record has a little bit of that coke bottle coloring to it so its somewhere in between.

The insert on this one also folds out,  I think it looks much better than the Mouthpiece one.

Hand of Hope

So first off, I love the 90's. Everything about the 90's even non hc related stuff.  I can't really figure out why, just something about it feels right to me and makes sense. So clearly, this means that 90's hardcore is going to rank right up there for me. Especially Morning Again.  This record is so damn good i cant even begin to describe. I got this off ebay a few weeks ago for SIX FUCKING DOLLARS. Which was a steal. I dont know anything about the pressing info on this record besides it being on euro label Goodlife. The sleeve is a great matte finish and almost looks like its entirely screenprinted, but its not.

 

Now lets talk about the back cover. All I have to say is CABAL JERSEY. I love cabal, I love 90's hardcore.

Lately Victory has been really trying to step up their vinyl game.  Clearly putting more effort into it by releasing the Straylight Run lp, a ton of RSD releases relevant to my hc interests and random smokey grey vinyl variants out of 100.  This Snapcase LP is no exception.

 

This lp is limited to 80 and this one is number 12! I have no idea what pressing this is of the actual vinyl, could be a repress or it could be og press with new covers.

 

The best thing about this lp is the screen printed cover, Victory clearly put a lot of effort into this one.  The cover is heavy cardstock and the ink is so thick it almost still feel wet. Multi screens had to be made for this cover so a lot of work went into screening all 80. It's really awesome that Victory put so much effort into an LP that I'm sure was never one of their big sellers.  But it's fucking Snapcase, well worth it.

Vogel

Buried Alive is easily my favorite Scott Vogel band. I enjoy all his other bands (slugfest, despair, terror), but none of them compare to Buried Alive for me. I got this 7" in the mail yesterday and must have listened to it at least 20 times last night, solidifying it as my favorite Buried Alive material. When i got The Death of Your Perfect World it didnt come off my record player for at least a week. I don't really know where I'm going with this. I guess i'll just spin this record some more.
