Sup bro?

 

So I only just recently discovered Errortype:11.  Fuck, I had been really missing out on this band. Its like a mix of Quicksand and Mind Over Matter! I heard one song somewhere and I was hooked.  Unfortunately its very difficult to find most of their stuff to download online, and even harder to find vinyl of it.  I did find this 10" on ebay and got it for like 10 bucks. Apparently I could have gotten it from REV brand new, but whatever. Im happy to have it.  I am openly collecting this band now so anyone who can help please comment!  

The LP's are stacking up

So i'm just gonna catch up here and talk about a few different LPs i got recently:

This is the Memorial "The Creative Process/Berlin" lp on black vinyl, Limited to 100. The sleeve is stamped with the photobooth records logo.  Something originally happened with this lp when it first came out.  I think it was supposed to come out on a different label and when it finaly did the preorder version didnt play at all? I really dont know but this version and the yellow i have play great and this is an amazing record.

Ah Mind Over Matter! I love this band and Security is easily my favorite material by them.  The frustration and mental anguish is easily conveyed in this record.  I've been lucky and have gotten to see them multiple times since the broke up.  Most recently June 11 when they played long island fest. And they covered LSS at that show, insane.

Anyway this was an ebay score where the seller listed it as black and having white streaks. He didnt post a picture of the vinyl but i took a chance.  You can see pretty clearly what he is talking about here, but I dont know if thats enough to classify it as different.  In other news, I still need this on RED, someone help!

Lastly we have one of the most important, if not the most important, hardcore record ever.  The Cro Mags "Age of Quarrel". I picked this up off a guy from the B9 board. The cover is in alright condition, and there's a skip in We Gotta Know, but otherwise it is fine and well worth the 50 i spent.  I am happy to own this record finally, and next up i have to get the uncensored sleeve. I was supposed to see Cro-Mags again over the summer. But then something happened between Harley and DMS which caused the show to stop.  My friends and I were standing in the middle of the floor waiting for the mags to start, when the light came on. I got excited because i prefer lights on at shows so i can see if im about to get knocked in the face.  But nope, show ended.  John Joseph promised a make up show but it hasnt happened yet, the Bowery is probably now sketched out on booking them.

Incendiary Rarity

One of my favorite things about collecting records is stumbling upon a record that you literally had no idea existed; not on anyone's list, never seen it or heard speak of it.  And when you find it you know you have to get it.  Its a sweet victory when you score something you didn't know existed. Case in point this Incendiary 7".

This is the first Incendiary 7".  The vinyl is exactly the same as the regular press.  The difference here is the cover, its a photocopy of the normal cover on light blue cardstock. Limited to 14.  I got this from Dave Campbell who runs State of Mind records, he was selling a huge list of rare stuff and this was on it. The photocopied cover makes it seem like this could have been a prepress for late covers or soemthing, but i was at the record release show for this 7" and I did not see this anywhere and they had the cover. I have to follow up with Brendan or Audley for the story on this. 

I was going for a full Indcendiary collection and it was going well, BUT closed casket activities just released the 3rd press of the split with Xibalba.....on 27 different covers.   Yes you read that right, 27 fucking colors.  I love incendiary, and I was going to put an order in for all 27, but I just couldn't bring myself to spend all that money.  Especially when you have to order using all in merch's website and get raped on shipping.  Oh well guess I'm done collecting incendiary, fuck you cca.

LIHC Demos

So last Sunday I was sitting in my kitchen eating a cheeseburger and reading a book when Nick texted me saying he had extra lihc demos and wanted to know if i wanted them.  Of course I said yes and within minutes I had paypaled him 20 bucks.  2 days later they arrived. The clockwise demo is from 1994 and is classic 90's long island.

Here's the tape iself and the liner notes. Look at that cut and paste photocopy job!

Next one i got was the Motive demo from 1996. I havent gotten a chance to listen to this yet as it appears my dad has hijacked my cassette player.

Brand new weaponry

So maybe a month ago i was on my phone at work when i got an e-mail from Shop Radio Cast that they had the repress of Brand New's "Your Favorite Weapon" back in stock.  Knowing that the regular presses go for literally hundreds of dollars, I knew this was my only chance to own it for a reasonable price.  This record itself actually goes for over 30 on ebay!

The coolest part of this is the embossed title of the lp on the lower front of the sleeve.  God i get so nostalgic when i look at this record, brings me back to being a teenager on long island.

Motherfuck the way it looks like rain

So recently I was searching the B9 board selling forum, looking for what else but records. Anyway I found a guy selling a bunch of records I wanted. His prices were high so we negotiated down on some of them but he really wasnt willing to be reasonable.  I ended up only wanting a few Instilled records from him. But he was still over-valuing these records. At the same time I was talking to Dave from State of Mind records on b9. I forget what the conversation started out on but i mentioned that the guy was overcharging me on Instilled records. He then informed me 2 of the colors(red and green) i was buying from the guy were still available on the State of Mind Webstore. So I put in an order for two of them and then Dave offered to sell me the blue and yellow copies of the 7"... and a test press! He gave me a price, which was insanely reasonable and i instantly sent the rest of the money to him, and let the other guy know i got the records from the label for reasonable pricing.
A week later, everything arrived:

The test press is pretty standard, no numbering or anything. However i love the spraypainting on the cover to differentiate it.

Here's all the records i got: TEST PRESS out of 10-sih, Blue un-numbered out of 100, Yellow out of 100, Red out of 250 and Green out of 300.  Dave said only some of the blue were numbered and were supposed to be numbered through 100, but the guy who was doing the label with him at the time got lazy and stopped numbering them. It is unknown how many are actually numbered on blue. I previously had this record on clear, and now it seems all I need to have a complete collection is blue numbered. Guess I fell into an Instilled collection. I love it.

Dave also included a bunch of bonuses with the records! A ton of State of Mind stickers,  a Krakdown sticker, a download for the Anchor Singles Collected LP,  the Blood Red ep cd that came with the the 7's and the vinyl decal from the Blood Red 7"!!! How cool is that! Such an awesome little piece of LIHC right there! Damn I'd love to get a Blood Red Test press.

Grail Status?

So here it is. This is something that I think many would consider a holy grail of LIHC collecting, and its not even a record, its a cassette! The Silent Majority demotape from 1994! I'm not sure if they have any other demo's besides this, but for the time being, im goin on the assumption that this is the music that started it all(unless nick corrects me). That completely changed long island music.

I still cant believe i now own this. I never ever thought i would own it. I had to drop a pretty penny on ebay, but at the time I figured since I had never seen it I could not miss out on it. It's got the songs Bind, One Stop, Knew Song and Expectations on it. Tommy's voice sounds so young on it.

Look at that, back when Lindenhurst still had the 516 area code, before the 631 began. This thing is so fucking cool to own. The tape looks like they really put some money into it instead of just dubbing it themselves too. So awesome!

Academy 7/28: pt. 1

Since I seem to go to Academy Records in Brooklyn a lot, I guess I'll be dating the titles from now on.  Last Saturday I worked about 7 hours before heading into Brooklyn with Joe. We initially went just to walk around, but of course if I'm in Brooklyn I'm going to be going to Academy. For whatever reason I really didnt expect to find anything. Some girls where hogging the newly received LPs so I checked out the newly received 7"s first.

First record i found was Scapegrace's "the ones who fell off the face of the earth". I love the cover art of this record, it just screams 90's to me.

The insert on this one is awesome, very detailed and it folds out to 3 pages long.

Second record I found was a Warped Weeble Wobbles 7". Both of these were in the same box! Shit i felt I was sure to find more Long Island band records..but i didnt.

This one also had an insert that folded out to three pages long. I only took a shot of 2 pages of it so the crowd shot could be better seen.

Last 7" I found was Soulefire's "Refuse to Fall".  I had never even heard of this band but the second i saw the name I new it had to be some kind of 90's hardcore. When i further inspected it I found confirmation of my suspicions in that it was Equal Visions Records #2! When i peeled off the price tag, once i got home, which was over the circle logo, i found some very hare krisha looking symbols. Yep so 90's its not even funny.

And look at that, the third record I got also had a insert that folded out to three pages! All of these were found in the same box, which is pretty awesome. Unfortunately I havent even had time to listen to these records yet.  Today was my 12th day working in a row, I'm surprised I've even had the energy to write any posts this week. I have 2 more LP's i got from this trip. But im going to split them into a Part 2 entry.

Primitive Weapons and Warped

So two saturdays ago I volunteered at the Bridge 9 Records booth Warped Tour at the LI date.  I haven't been to warped in years but i figured it might be fun and maybe i'd see some bands i like amongst the absolute crap that riddles warped tours lineup nowadays.  Volunteering was overall an alright experience.  A friend from Tenessee (Garrett) was there and we chilled for most of the day.  A lot of random people were at Warped that I did not expect to see there.   Including Nick! But it was great seeing everyone and getting the pre blog post info on Nicks box from Pavlos.  After warped myself and Garrett hit up a pizza joint and then went to Amityville for the Capital / Sheer Terror gig. When I got there I had completely forgotten Primitive Weapons were playing, I didnt realize this til we got to the merch tables.  I had first been given their 7' by none other than Arthur Shepard himself, when Mind Over Matter had played w/ Glassjaw at the Best Buy Theater the year before and I convinced him playing LI fest was a good idea.  I liked that record so i picked this one up too.

This is their first LP called "The Shadow Gallery", limited to 150 on grey marble.  Its a pretty good record, heavy and chaotic at times. Ive spun it quite a bit since i purchased it. I like how they put PW002 on the top left of the cover, i guess its going to be a running count of how many releases they put out. 

Its clear the label put a lot of work into this lp, the vinyl is heavy and feels good in the hand and the friggin insert folds out and looks great.

Fun fact about the show, I ended up completely missing Primitive Weapons. It went like this: Watched provider, hung out outside and forgot PW was playing, came back inside mid 1776 set to see somone immediately cartwheeling, watched Capital, got tired and left before Sheer Terror.  Yea i know.

The Heist or Scraps and Heart Attacks?

So my morning pre-work ritual has changed to involve drinking coffee and basically browsing ebay for a half hour before i exercise and get ready for work. Last week I came upon a record release copy of The Heist 7" "Scraps and Heart Attacks".   I like Scraps but had never really listened to anything they put out before they changed their name from The Heist to Scraps and Heart Attacks. So i figured id grab this.  Ended up winning it for less than 7 bucks!  its got a silkscreened cover on heavy cardstock, white vinyl and was sold at the NJ record release show.  Limited to 155.

When i went to pay for it, I noticed by looking at the sellers email address that it was Darren Nanos.  Darren runs LI label Just a Audial with Dave Vibert. JAA put out the Capital 7" "Blind Faith".  Over the past few years I've been in contact with Darren and Dave trying to get a copy of the test press for that record, as it is the LAST record i need to have a complete Capital collection.  So right when I saw it was Darren I figured i hadnt bothered him in a while about it so might as well ask again.  Previously they both had said they were going to put their copies on ebay when it came time to put out the next release.  I emailed Darren and made an offer.  I didnt get a response til I got the Heist record with a written note on the inside of the mailer...

Look like a Blind Faith test press might be in my future! Thanks Darren!

LI heavy hitter

Lately I've been really choosy about what shows I go to. So choosy that I hadnt gone to a hardcore show for 6 months til Indecision played in the city. After that I decided to go to the Bottom Out record release show, with Incendiary and Shipwreck!   I, like an idiot, didnt go to the merch table til after the show and they had sold out of the record release cover, so i got this light/milky blue out of 200. It looks great and its clear Harvcore cares about vinyl quality.  I need to get the other 2 colors and the record release cover now.

The show was awesome and people went nuts for Bottom Out, which is to be expected since it was their record release show. Incendiary had probably the best reaction I've seen yet, seriously I've been seeing that band since almost day 1 and their reactions get better and better. Finally the almighty Shipwreck played.  They hadn't been on LI since maybe 07 or 08, and I hadn't seen then since the last Have Heart show in 09, so I was most excited for their set as they were one of the first hardcore bands I really got into.  Their set ripped and i felt like it was 2006 again.  Sadly, Shipwreck brought no merch with them.  I guess since they rarely play anymore it doesnt make sense to have merch made.

Don't Bother Angel.....

Taking Back Sunday are one of the 2 bands that opened up the floodgates of alternative music and punk/hardcore/emo for me. I first heard of them when I had bought tickets to see Thursday play at an LI venue called the Sahara.  This was my first real show and I was super excited, so I set out to check out every band before the show.  Those including Ensign and From Autumn to Ashes. I was able to find a few random demo songs off Kazaa in late 2001 and I loved it.  Seeing them live for the first time was amazing.  Unfortunately when I hit their merch table, they had no music for sale which was a total bummer, I ended up settling for the FATA cd (of which i only ever listened to the song w/ the girl singing on it).

 

Over 10 years after it came out it dawned on me that I did not own of my favorite all time records on vinyl. I went over to Victory's webstore and was able to pick up a copy of the 5TH press of Tell All Your Friends.  The color is "grey putty" and limited to 449.

 

I was actually at the record release show of this album, well CD release, held at Looney Tunes. Myself and 3 friends waited on line for a few hours and it never moved. Finally being confused as fuck I went inside and was told I would have had to preordered a copy of the cd to gain entry into the show. I explained to them that this wasnt listed on any of the fliers nor on Looney Tunes or TBS's website, so how was I to know. They didn't care and wouldn't let us in. I finally gave up and said can I at least buy a TBS cd or shirt and be on my way?  I was answered with a stern NO and left empty handed.  This incident caused me to boycott Looney Tunes til after it burned to the ground about 7 years late, only then did I feel justice served and began to patronize their store.
